Medicare Advantage with Humana
Medicare’s abundance of choices is a net positive, but sometimes determining which plans and options are right for you feels overwhelming. There are so many variables to consider, but our Medicare Plan Comparison tool and trained specialists can help you find the best plan for your family.
Humana works hard to make determining your perfect Medicare Advantage plan simple. Like all Medicare Advantage plans, Humana’s offerings meet the requirements found in Medicare Parts A and B. If you choose one of Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans, you keep the same rights and protections you enjoy under Medicare A and B. What’s more, many of Humana’s plans include prescription drug coverage that exceeds Medicare requirements.
Humana Medicare Advantage Plans
Humana offers Medicare beneficiaries three plans:
- Humana Gold Plus
- Humana Choice
- Humana Gold Choice
Humana Gold Plus is an HMO plan that allows you to choose your doctor from a broad network of Medicare providers. Costs are fixed and affordable, with the same benefits of Medicare Parts A and B, plus a little extra, such as a $0 co-pay for most annual preventive screenings. When it comes to managing their budgets, plan members appreciate knowing their out-of-pocket costs.
Humana Choice is a PPO plan that provides greater choice in choosing your doctor, as it allows you to choose any provider who accepts both Medicare and Humana. Not that you will pay less out-of-pocket if you choose an in-network provider.
Humana Gold Choice is a private fee-for-service (PFFS) plan that allows you to choose any provider who accepts Humana’s terms and conditions. Members have a $0 co-pay for most annual preventive screenings with a set monthly premium. In addition, many plans include prescription drug coverage.
Medicare Part D and Humana
Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage. To lower prescription drug expenses, members choose a standalone plan offered through private insurers, such as Humana. Each plan has its own coverage formulary (specific drug list), so review your plan choices closely to ensure that any medications you take regularly are included.
Human offers three prescription drug plans (PDP):
- Humana Wal-Mart Rx Plan
- Humana Preferred Rx Plan
- Humana Enhanced Plan
Humana Wal-Mart Rx Plan includes numerous money-saving features, including low premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. It also offers 90-day supply via mail order pharmacy. You may also go outside Wal-Mart pharmacies (Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Walmart Neighborhood Marketplace), though costs are higher.
Humana Preferred Rx Plan also offers low co-pays and deductibles, as well as the ability to use pharmacies outside the Wal-Mart Rx Plan network for slightly higher co-pays.
Humana Enhanced is the most comprehensive prescription drug plan that Humana offers, with no deductible and low co-pays.
Humana Medicare Supplement Insurance
The Medicare Supplement insurance plans offered by Humana help cover gaps in Medicare Parts A and B, such as deductibles, making your healthcare costs more predictable. You also enjoy the same protections and benefits of Medicare, such as keeping your provider.
Please note that these are not managed care plans and vary somewhat by state.
- Plans A and B: Both provide coverage for medical expenses, hospitalization, and hospice care, with B including coverage for Part A’s deductible.
- Plan C: Offers greater coverage than A or B by adding skilled nursing care and emergency care when traveling abroad.
- Plan F: Offers all of the benefits of A, B, and C, as well as 100 percent of Plan B excess charges. It also allows you to choose a high deductible option for lower premiums.
- Plan G: Includes basic benefits, coverage for the deductible in Part A, Part B excess charges, skilled nursing care, and emergency care when traveling abroad.
- Plans K and L: These policies have lower premiums and cover a variety of benefits and costs, such as the Plan A deductible, doctor’s services, hospital care, and skilled nursing. Each plan pays a set percentage but also has an annual out-of-pocket maximum.
- Plan N: This offers the same benefits as K and L, with the addition of emergency care when traveling overseas.
